Progressive bluegrass multi-instrumentalist Billy Gilmore started playing the five-string banjo when he was seven years old, and quickly added guitar, mandolin, dobro, fiddle, pedal steel, bass and keyboards to his list of instruments, all of which he has mastered, in any style from bluegrass to jazz, swing to funk and soul and rock and roll and all points in between. Gilmore has toured and recorded with an impressive number of groups, including Brittany Reilly & The Almost Acoustic Band, Crazy Fingers, The Bluegrass Travelers, Quartermoon, Aquaphonics, Stonehouse and the Hickory Project, and is the band leader and frontman for the juggernaut The Grass Is Dead, a band whose fresh bluegrass twist on the classic Grateful Dead catalogue has quickly earned them legions of fans from the Rockies to the Atlantic.
